Also, how does everyone feel about the new (well, new to ME) Whitney single? I haven’t decided yet…
The Psychology of Underwear
Friday, April 10, 2009
Is it just me, or is there a lot of talk about men’s underwear recently?
In today’s issue of WWD, there is a really interesting article (not to mention a SMOKING HOT men’s underwear spread) about men’s underwear and the appeal of their elastic band to consumers. Is it all about labels and image? Who want’s to be a walking billboard anyway? Until now, I’ve never outwardly considered the psychology involved with choosing one’s underwear. In fact, there’s a whole set of judgments gays make based on labels. It’s a homo pastime. Has this always been so?
“It’s a jock strap? Oh, he must be a Black Party guy.”
“It’s 2Xist? Oh, he must be a White Party boy.”
“BVDs? He must be straight.”
According to WWD, it all started with Calvin Klein — which makes total sense:
“In Marky Mark’s ads for Calvin Klein jeans, the brand’s underwear was always showing, the waistband and its logo clearly visible. Those ads helped reinforce the waistband’s role as a marketing vehicle. ‘Everyone is wearing lower-rise jeans where the underwear peaks out,’ said Jason Scarlatti, [2xist's] creative director. ‘It’s bragging rights for the customer. It says, ‘I paid good money for this.’”
Or, maybe it’s the economy that’s giving designer underwear a re-fresh. According to Jockey, “It may seem as far fetched as fairies [heh], but if research from men’s underwear brand Jockey is to be believed, sales of pink pants are soaring as men use their undergarments to cheer them up in the economic crisis.

Murderer of Gay Indy Couple Found
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Michael L. Brown, a man wanted for the double murder of a gay elderly couple in Indianapolis, was arrested Saturday by the San Diego Fugitive Task Force in California. Police issued two warrants for his arrest back in October.
Brown was one of the two people who originally reported concerned to the police that he hadn’t heard from the couple. He claimed that he found the doors locked while doing checking in on the men and climbed in a back window and found them dead. Police were later unable to find Brown in Indiana and Task force officers discovered Brown near Scripps Hospital in San Diego. He was arrested in the hospital’s lobby a short time later.
Obama T.V.
Thursday, October 30, 2008
Last night at 8PM, Senator Barack Obama became the first presidential candidate in 16 years to buy network time in prime time (and effectively pushing back the World Series on Fox by 15 minutes). Here is it below:
$3 million well spent. This was shown on NBC, CBS, Fox, Univision, MSNBC, BET and TV One (The latter two being cable networks whose main audience are African-Americans). My question is, how did he manage to get nearly 30 minutes of video on to YouTube? He he buy space on there too? Anyone?
Obama really has been getting to the American public where it counts. He put ads in video games aiming at the future of the United States: our wired youth. According to The Huffington Post:
Only gamers playing online in 10 states can see the ads, which appear as stadium signage or billboards, Rockwood said. (The ads are downloaded when gamers log on to the Xbox Internet service.) Unsurprisingly, all 10 states are swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin. President Bush won all of those states in 2004 except for Wisconsin.
What I find hilarious is what the New York Times reports Senator McCain saying in response: “No one will delay the World Series with an infomercial when I’m president.”
Indeed.
Elderly Gay Couple Slain in Indy
Thursday, October 23, 2008
This happened at 9160 Middlebury Way in Indianapolis in an addition called “Heartland Crossing.” Literally a 15 minute drive from my parents’ house. 5 minutes from my grandparents’ house. I will definitely be paying a visit with some flowers next time I’m in Indy.
Via Towleroad:
Milton Lindgren, 70, and Eric Hendricks, 73, two southwest Indianapolis men, were found dead inside their home Monday, and friends believe that they were slain because they’re gay:
“Patrick Beard, a friend of the victims, told 6News’ Rick Hightower that he believed the men were targeted. ‘I firmly believe it was definitely a hate crime. Milt was 70 and his partner was 73 and to go into someone’s home and do something like that, it’s just too coincidental,’ he said. Police reports show that the men had their phone and cable lines cut twice in the past few months, and that anti-gay statements were posted on their front door. Investigators said that while they do believe the vandalism was related to Lindgren and Hendricks being gay, that they didn’t know if their killings were. Beard’s son, who also knew the victims, said he believes police will eventually reach the same conclusion he and his father have. ‘I’m not a genius, but if someone’s being harassed like that and fagot gets stamped on their door on a piece of paper, it’s not that hard to connect the dots two months later that these two people are brutally killed in their home,’ Lee Beard said.”
The cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma. There was blood everywhere in the home.
Hendricks was ill and in a wheelchair. Lindgren was reportedly his caregiver.
Here is a partial transcript of the 911 call made:
OPERATOR: Emergency 911
CALLER: Can you send officers….
OPERATOR: and what are we coming there for sir?
CALLER: …He’s the caregiver of the house, and went in the back and found them upstairs.
OPERATOR: So we got people inside of a house?
CALLER: Yes, Yes.
OPERATOR: How many?
CALLER: Two
OPERATOR: Do we have them in custody yet?
CALLER: No, They are deceased.
OPERATOR: Oh my gosh! They live there and they both passed away?
CALLER: Well, it appears that way. There is blood everywhere.
Police have not released any suspect information as of Tuesday (10/21) evening. Anyone with information is asked to call the Indianapolis Police at 317-327-3811 or Crime Stopper at 317-262-TIPS. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at www.crimetips.org.
Palin, Changing the Constitution
Thursday, October 23, 2008
Palin told Focus on the Family’s James Dobson that she will implement the Republican Party platform, including gay marriage, that are more conservative than previous positions McCain has taken. Dobson called the platform the “strongest pro-life, pro-family document to come out of a political party.” The Republican platform this year advocates for constitutional amendments defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
Ellen Degeneres had a few good things to say after she found out about this:
Ya know, I am openly gay to my entire family out in the Midwest, and I have no doubt that half of them are going to vote for a McCain-Palin administration. Regardless of the winner in November, I sure as hell am going to have some interesting conversation with family over the holidays.

“…how you feel Eskimos?”

Click here to play of a clip of "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" featuring the Sarah Palin Rap.
This past Thursday, Sarah Palin FINALLY made an appearance on Saturday Night Live — on the “Weekend Update Thursday” episode to be precise. I’m not sure if this was part of the script or not, but Palin backed out on the air. So, naturally, Amy Poehler does it and hits a home run.
From Gothamist:
No word on how (and if) Sarah Palin’s appearance on Saturday Night Live will help out the Republican’s campaign, but it certainly helped out Lorne & Co. Word is that the show saw its highest household ratings in more than 14 years (to be more specific: since March 12, 1994, when Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan hosted). To put it in a more recent perspective, ABC reports that the ratings were up 47% compared to the October 4th episode.

Thank you Towleroad for bringing these photos of the new Star Trek movie to my attention. Unfortunately, Entertainment Weekly gave it bad reviews. We’ll just have to see for ourselves when it hit’s theaters May 8, 2009. I’m not about to miss a movie about hotguys on starships.
Check out the teaser trailer here.
